Welcome to the web site for McDonnell Horticulture Inc. We are a 220 acre container nursery located in the Sandhills of Moore County in Cameron North Carolina. We are located 15 minutes north of the popular Pinehurst resort area and south of Sanford on Old US Highway 1.
We have ½ acre of mist propagation houses producing over 1.0M rooted cuttings per year. Our latest greenhouse construction project completed in Feb. 2005 brings our total greenhouse surface area to over 220,000 sq. ft.. The majority of our irrigated acreage is dedicated to the production of woody ornamental shrubs suitable for landscape use in hardiness zones 4-9. On site propagation allows many new plant offerings to be added every year to our diverse offerings of most popular shrubs. Our production is consistent and continuous allowing predictable availability of all shrubs in all sizes all season.
     We grow over 60 different varieties of patented and non-patented roses that are available for in-bloom delivery from early March through June 1st.   We grow and deliver over 500,000 roses to wholesale customers in 26 states reaching as far North as Long Island and Maine. We continue to increase our production of KnockOut™ roses. This increasing popular disease resistant variety is now available in the original deep red, pink, and blush. New for 2007 will be Rainbow KnockOut™ a 2007 AARS winner and Double KnockOut™ which has twice as many petals as the original while maintaining the same level of disease tolerance. We will also make available for the first time a 36” Knockout™ Tree Rose.
     Annual azalea production exceeds 600,000 plants in over 50 different varieties suitable for hardiness zones 5-9. Azaleas grown in houses will bloom beginning in mid-February and field grown varieties will be shipped through early June in bloom. Several unique azalea varieties will bloom all summer and hold their bloom through November.
    We have increased our perennial production to include nearly 200 unique offerings suitable for hardiness zones 5-9 including the “Perennial of the Year” the Lentin Rose. In early September through November we have available a broad selection of field grown garden mums.
    Though our primary focus is growing and supplying our wholesale customers, we do sell directly to the public in our expanded retail Garden Center. All plants listed in our wholesale inventory are available to you in our retail Garden Center everyday Monday through Friday 8-5:00. Spring and Fall Saturday 9-4:00 (Sundays in April and May).   Most all of your additional needs in annual plants, soil amendments, and unique garden gift items are available everyday.
